Franklin Booth: American Illustrator

Edited by Manuel Auad. Franklin Booth was born in 1874 and was raised on a remote farm in Indiana. As an artistically inclined youth he poured over illustrations in the popular magazines of the time, all of which used a wood-engraved print technique to reproduce drawings and paintings. While copying with a pen the fine lines created by this mechanical process, Booth developed his intricate "cross-hatching" drawing style.

Soon he was crafting distinctive artwork for advertisements, articles, poems and bookplates and his work appeared regularly in publications such as Cosmopolitian, Harpers, McClures and Good Housekeeping.

Booth's style has been widely imitated but never equalled. The genius of this great American illustrator continues to inspire and delight.

In this richly illustrated volume featuring much rarely seen artwork, Eisner Award-winning editor Auad offers a glimpse into the breathtaking vision of this incredible American illustrator.
